Voina. PIR. Kiev. 10.02.2008PIR The Voina live-installation at the "Common space" exhibition in Kiev On February 10 at 11 am the Voina group erected a live-installation of the Moscow metro action PIR on all three lines of the Kiev subway. The "Common space" exhibition, a curatorial project of the REP group, opened on the Arsenalnaya square on February 6 as a freight shipping container featuring documentations of actions by Russian and Ukrainian artists. Two days later, on February 8, the container was promptly blacked out and evacuated following a decree by the municipal council of the city of Kiev, which marked the contents of the artists's work as prostitution, pornography and not too much religion. Organizers of the "Common space" exhibition were set to illustrate democratization by displaying artists's initiatives which intervene and re-work public space. An sample of such an intervention was the displayed video of the PIR action -- a memorial to the conceptual poet Dmitry Alexandrovich Prigov -- which was held by Voina in the midnight Moscow metro on August 24 2007. See -accidentalrussophile.blogspot.com In Kiev members of the Voina decided to leave the public out of the collision between artists and local bureaucrats -- the action was demonstrated as a live-installation in the Sunday mourning metro, where artists and the public joined together in a PIR (FEAST).
